Summary |
Celia Lytton broke the rules when she demanded a job in her husband Oliver's new publishing company. This was Edwardian England, when women of her class were expected to look lovely and bear children but nothing more. With the help of her sister-in-law, Celia proved she could do both, becoming invaluable to the success of Lyttons. Now the company is flourishing, and a new generation Lyttons is growing up to inherit it: Giles, the twins Adele and Venetia, Barty, the slum child rescused by Celia so many years before, and Kit, the youngest. But the future looks dark. As the glamour of the Twenties passes, the shadow of war lengthens and threatens the happiness and very lives of the family. Strong-willed Celia Lytton has survived much but now she must guide her family through until peace is declared. |
