Summary |
In the early '70s, Dogtown was what habitués called the gone-to-seed beachfront sections of Santa Monica and Venice, California. A group of surfers, who were also skaters, hung out together at the Zephyr Surf Shop. Skateboarding was a dying '60s pastime when new polyurethane wheels and new uses for an endless supply of concrete rescued it. The Z-Boys, sporting surf-derived fluid styles and aggressive attitudes, reinvented it, and then reintroduced it to U.S. teenagers. The Z-Boys definitively added style to skating, while they created-out of thin air-the idea of skating as a lifestyle. |
