Summary Two one-act comic Singspiels, Bastien und Bastienne is here set as a production within Der Schauspieldirektor with the main characters depicted on stage by both singers and marionettes. Mozart's Singspiel "Bastien und Bastienne" tells the story of two lovers, driven apart by jealousies but reunited by the soothsayer Colas; "Der Schauspieldirektor" tells of the difficulties of an impresario in dealing with his troupe of performers, especially in handling the rivalry of prima donnas.
