Summary Claude Monet (1840-1926) moved to Giverny in 1893 and lived with his family in a house on the river for the rest of his life. He created a flower garden there known as the Clos Normand, as well as a water garden - a pond filled with water lilies, surrounded by weeping willows, flowers and bamboo. The water garden profoundly influenced Monet's work, inspiring him to create hundreds of paintings.
