Summary Sugarman traveled as a journalist and illustrator with a group of northern students to Mississippi in the summer of 1964 to help register blacks to vote, and recounted his experience in Stranger at the Gates: A Summer in Mississippi. Here he tells more of that summer, and continues the story by describing his return visits to the Mississippi Delta in 1965 and October 2001.
