Summary |
Three monks live together at a small temple at the top of a mountain: a young monk, a skinny monk, and a fat monk. Three people means three pairs of hands to share the work--right? But it's not that simple. The young monk is happy to do all the work when he lives alone, hauling water up the mountain every day. But it gets harder to figure out who is responsible for this chore once his two new friends arrive. When nobody wants to fetch the water, all three monks become lazy. Even when they grow dirty and thirsty, they keep waiting for someone else to fetch the water they need--until one day a lightning storm comes and sets a tree on fire, threatening the temple they care for. Based on a Chinese proverb, this funny and wise story illustrates how teamwork always saves the day. |
