Summary Mata Hari was a notorious exotic dancer-turned spy during WWI. Though of Dutch birth, she was ultimately convicted of spying for the Germans and causing the deaths of some 50,000 Allied soldiers. Mata Hari was executed by firing squad in France in 1917.
