Summary Also known as theℓWaldseemüller Map, Universalis Cosmographiaℓwas printed inℓ1507 using 12 woodcuts on separate panels.ℓThis was the first mapℓto include the name “America” in honorℓof the Florentine explorer Amerigo Vespucci.ℓIt is also one ofℓthe first mapsℓto depict the Americas as separate from Asia. One copy of the map survives, and this copyℓwas purchased by the Library of Congress in 2001 for $10 million.
