Summary Drawn from thousands of hours of audiotape and tens of thousands of photographs created by photojournalist W. Eugene Smith from 1957 to 1965, this film tells the story of the Manhattan loft building that Smith turned into a gathering spot for jazz musicians and jam sessions. Smith's sounds and images are interspersed with present-day interviews with musicians and other visitors who spent time in the jazz loft during those years.
