February 6, 1978, started out as just another Monday in connecticut. But by midday, a massive and unprecedented snowstorm had hit, leaving highways jammed with abandoned cars and thousands of surprised residents. The numbers were staggering ... 15 to 30 inches of snow; wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour; snowdrifts as high as 16 feet; and three straight days without automobile, air or rail traffic. Governor Ella Grasso was forced to call in the National Guard. |
Summary |
The Blizzard of '78, a CPTV original documentary, captures this epic storm with images, video and interviews with people who experienced the weather's fury first-hand. Interviews with area residents and meteorological experts, such as WFSB-TV's longtime weather reporter Hilton Kaderli and WTNH-TV's chief meteorologist D. Mel Goldstein, recapture the power of the storm and how it spread panic thoughout the state. |
