Summary This biography details the life ofℓGirolamo Sabornarola. Sabornarola was an Italian friar whoℓsuggested that pince-nez glasses could be connected to ribbons fastened around the head and then covered with a fashionable hat. The ribbon would secure the glasses in place and the hat would weigh the ribbon down so that it wouldn't slip. This was one of the precursors to the modern style ofℓglasses with frames that have arms to rest above the ears.
