Summary |
Edwin Abbott Abbott was critical of the many limitations Victorian society imposed on women and members of the lower social classes. He wrote this book of advice for parents and tutors who were homeschooling their children, particularly girls and children of poorer families. Abbott wanted those parents to be able to give their children the same high-quality education that wealthy students and males received. Because Abbott was headmaster of the City of London School for more than twenty years, he had plenty of wisdom and advice to offer on teaching methods and strategies. The book is divided into collections of lessons on moral habits, intellectual exercises and religious instruction. |
