Voters want their votes to be effective, and casting a ballot that will have no influence on an election is undesirable--therefore, some voters cast a strategic ballot when they decide it is useful. This edited volume includes case studies of strategic voting behavior in Israel, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Canada, and the UK, and provides a conceptual framework for understanding strategic voting behavior in all types of electoral systems. The classic definition explicitly considers strategic voting in a single race with a single winner, which has at least three candidates. This situation is more common in electoral systems that have single member districts that employ plurality or majoritarian electoral rules and have multiparty systems. Indeed, much of the literature on strategic voting to date has considered systems like those in Canada and the United Kingdom. This book contributes to a more general understanding of strategic voting behavior by taking into account a wide variety of institutional contexts, such as single transferable vote rules, proportional representation, two round and mixed electoral systems"-- |cProvided by publisher. 542 1 |fThis work is licensed under a Creative Commons license |uhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ legalcode 542 1 |fThis work is licensed by Knowledge Unlatched under a Creative Commons license|uhttps://creativecommons.org/ licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/legalcode 588 Description based on online resource; title from digital title page (viewed on December 05, 2018). 650 0 Elections|vCross-cultural studies. 650 0 Voting|vCross-cultural studies. 650 0 Representative government and representation|vCross- cultural studies. 650 0 Political parties|vCross-cultural studies. 650 7 POLITICAL SCIENCE / Political Process / Elections. |2bisacsh 650 7 POLITICAL SCIENCE / Political Process / General.|2bisacsh 650 7 Elections.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00904324 650 7 Political parties.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01069410 650 7 Representative government and representation.|2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01094941 650 7 Voting.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01169232 650 7 POLITICAL SCIENCE / General.|2bisacsh 655 7 Cross-cultural studies.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01423769 700 1 Stephenson, Laura Beth,|d1976-|eeditor. 700 1 Aldrich, John H.,|d1947-|eeditor. 700 1 Blais, André,|d1947-|eeditor. 776 08 |iPrint version:|tMany faces of strategic voting|dAnn Arbor : University of Michigan Press, [2018] |z9780472131020|w(DLC) 2018042677 914 on1061135733 994 92|bCKE
