Summary The purpose of this study was to explore the sources of support for breast self-examination available to women within the various social groups in which they participate, and the effect of support on their breast self-examination (BSE) behavior. Women's sources of support for breast-self-examination should be considered in planning teaching programs for breast-self examinatoin. Health care providers are a strong influence for BSE, and should provide reminders and support for BSE in their practice and the community.
