In order to secure the Eastern border of Gaul from the marauding Germanic tribes, Caesar had a bridge built since the tribes often used the river as a way to attack and then flee from retaliation from the Romans. In book four of Caesar's commentaries, he gives great detail of the bridge's double-piling wooden construction. The bridge was meant to show that Caesar, and indeed Rome, could go anywhere.ℓ 700 1 Soane, John,|d1753-1837,|eartist. 830 0 Early Roman History anthology. 830 0 BiblioBoard Core module. 914 MODID-00000000001_APPID-00000001187_ACID-000000000062364
