Summary This book, written by Scottish explorer and biologist James Marr, documents the last Antarctic expedition of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton. The expedition, known as the "Shackleton-Rowe Expedition," set out from England on September 24, 1921 with several members of the crew from the Endurance Expedition joining Shackleton on his last journey south. Upon reaching South Georgia, Shackleton died of a heart attack in the early morning of January 5, 1922, and he was buried on the island at the wishes of his wife. The expedition continued on, but was called back to England by financier, John Rowett, and the expedition was not greatly publicized.
