Summary Rajanibabu runs the Annapurna boarding house in Kolkata. His wife and children live in the suburbs and he comes every weekend. But his show of affection to his wife only invites biting words from her. She considers it unseemly with growing children around them. The boarding house in Kolkata is an all-male abode. Everyone has their pecularities, but they get along. One day, a relative of Rajani's comes asking for shelter with his wife and daughter. The boarders have an excited meeting and, attracted to Romola, the beautiful young girl, all unmarried boarders voted in their favour. Soon, all the boarders are found in Romola's way or near her room. In the meantime, Rampriti, the leader of the boarding residents, comes returns to school. He calls the boarding from his college and Romola takes the call. As he cannot dream of a woman in the boarding house, he speaks rudely and they argue. He come to the house, discovers Romola, and the couple has another fight. Rampriti vehemently vetoes their stay but is overruled by the other residents. Gradually however, Rampriti and Romola fall in love, arousing the jealousy of other boarders. They start exchanging letters through the servant Madan. Madan can't escape the sharp eyes of the boarders who hijack one of the letters. Infuriated, they showed it to Rajani, who promises to look into it after coming back from home and puts the letter in his pocket. At home, his wife discovers the letter, suspects him of having an extramarital affair and has an extraordinary tantrum, completely bewildering Rajani. Advised by her friend, she dresses up and dazzles Rajani with her show of love when he next comes home. In the meantime, Romola and Rampriti's marriage is fixed and Rajani gets busy with all the preparations. At home, his wife calls a priest of black magic who performs a ceremony to bring back her wayward husband. She then gets the news of a marriage in the boarding house. Suspecting Rajani of bigamy, she travels to Kolkata with her children. Chaos ensues as she strangles her bemused husband. The confusion is resolved only when she produces the loveletter as proof of Rajani's infidelity. The couple are reconciled as the marriage ceremony of Rampriti and Romola is solemnized.--Based on gomolo.in.
