Summary A photo of Brigham Young, who served as President of the Church of Latter-Day Saints for 29 years following the death of Joseph Smith. He is the longest-standing president, serving from 1847 to his death in 1877. Young's practice ofℓpolygamy and other fringe beliefs led many members of the church to leave, but alsoℓattracted new members. Today, he is known as both an influential founder and a controversial figure of early Mormonism.
