Summary "While there is an abundance of literature--good literature, too--dealing with the psychoses from the institutional standpoint and written by those who have had a wealth of experience in the institutional management of the more severe types of mental and nervous disturbances, there seems to be a dearth of practical literature dealing with the nonpsychotic groups of nervous disorders, affording help to the physician in general practice or occupied with one of the many specialties, in his efforts to aid those of his patients who are more or less neurotic, or who may be suffering from more serious mental and nervous ailments. It is with a view of helping to meet this need that this volume has been written. This book in general follows the psychiatric concepts of what might be called 'The American School of Psychiatry, ' although I have freely drawn upon all the special schools of psychologic thought and psychiatric practice. The trend of this book is along the lines of the present-day genetic-dynamic concepts of psychiatry which have contributed so much to making human behavior, normal and abnormal, more understandable"--Preface.
