Summary The major purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a survey of clinical and scientific issues across a wide range of practice and research topics in health care. It offers a variety of approaches and perspectives from research-based clinical programs to scientific challenges, to help clarify basic and applied health care problems; from clinically based health care programs and strong opinions on present-day issues of care to future trends in health care and the evolution of psychology from a mental health field to a profession that addresses the full spectrum of health care concerns.
"Health Psychology Through the Life Span" explores a vast array of critical services that health psychologists can provide in both the practice and research arenas. Chapters summarize research results that show the positive health benefits of behavioral treatments, describe collaborative practices--both formal and informal--that physician and psychologists can establish, and outline specific behavioral approaches to various health problems.
