This drawing shows Tomás de Torquemada, a Spanish Dominican friar and the first Grand Inquisitor of the Spanish Inquisition. Torquemada was also the confessor to Queen Isabella I of Castile and one of the chief supporters of the Alhambra Decree of 1492, which expelled over 200,000 Jews from Spain. |
