Summary There was an attempted assassination of Theodore Roosevelt during his 1912 campaign.ℓJohn Flammang Schrank, a citizen of Milwaukee, where Roosevelt was about to give a speech, shot him in the chest. Luckily, Roosevelt's chest pocketℓheld his eyeglasses case, which was made of steel, and a folded copy of the lengthy speech he was about to give. He determined that he wasn't fatally wounded, and promptly gave the speech with blood seeping onto his suit. Doctors were unable to get the bullet out of him without high risk, so it was left in him for the rest of his life.
