"This book focuses exclusively on empirically based play interventions. The editors have created a user-friendly reference of innovative, developmentally responsive, play-based interventions that are proven clinically effective with a variety of populations and childhood disorders. Each program featured in this text is theoretically grounded and designed to be implemented in multiple settings. In addition, many of the interventions featured in this text are time-limited, requiring 10 weeks or less of treatment. The editors organized chapters into four main sections, differentiating between empirically based interventions aimed at prevention and those targeted for specific disorders. Also, review chapters on broader substantive areas are included. Although they focus on the outcome research that supports each program's efficacy, the chapter authors also provide clearly stated objectives, theoretical and developmental rationale for the intervention, required materials and training, and salient treatment components.
