| Summary |
James Prince, an agent for the Mutual Protection Trading and Mining Company, published these Articles of Rules and Regulations in Boston, 1849. Archived by the California State Library, it was found attached to the journal of A. Henry Stevens, who arrived in San Francisco on September 13, 1849. There were 60 members of the company who each bought shares for $300; all of the profits were then split evenly. The articles instruct members on the rules of mining and even on conduct, as Article XI forbids "games of chance and use of intoxicating liquors." |
