Summary English Victorian landscape artist Alfred Heaton Cooper illustrated numerous books for the publisher Adam and Charles Black, including this volume on the English Lakes. Cooper is also well known for his paintings of the Norwegian fjords and settled there for a time before moving to the Lake District. In 1898, Cooper opened a gallery in Coniston,â„“offering his landscapes of the region to the tourist trade. The Heaton Cooper Studio and gallery in Grasmere was founded by Cooper's son, William Heaton Cooper, in 1938 and is still in business today, offering works by both of the artists, as well as by current members of the Heaton Cooper family.
