Summary |
Edith Wharton's works are known for their literary naturalism, and her inclusion in House of Mirth of the prevalence of and dependence on headache cures by women is just one example of her attempt to capture real life in her novel. So vividly did she represent reality that Charles Bartlett, the president of the Orangeine Chemical Company wrote to Wharton to thank her for the inclusion of his product in her work. He asked if she would provide a testimonial for Orangeine in return for the product at a discounted price. It appears that she did not reply.ℓ |
