Summary This document is the Alhambra Decree, written in Castilian Spanish. It is sometimes known as the Edict of Expulsion, which ordered the expulsion of all Jews from the Kingdoms of Castile and Aragon and its territories by July 31, 1492. Isabella and Ferdinand were afraid of crypto-Jews trying to convert Christians to their faith and sought to eradicate the supposed threat through their expulsion. It's estimated that somewhere between 130,000 and 800,000 Jews left Spain, with over half fleeing to Portugal, where their freedom was short-lived.
