Summary This is a photograph of Oliver Cromwell's death mask, on display in Warwick Castle. Cromwell is thought to have suffered from malaria later in life, as well as from kidney stones. In 1658, he fell victim to a malarial fever, and he died in that year at the age of 59. Cromwell is a controversial figure in British history, celebrated by some and villainized by others, for his roles in the English Civil Wars of the 17th century and for his political reforms.
