Summary Written as a short story, Miss Heck’s Thanksgiving Party provides readers with helpful hints and tips on preparing and decorating for a traditional Thanksgiving meal like the ones eaten by the Pilgrims of the Plymouth Colony.ℓ The Pilgrims experienced many new crops and food sources upon their arrival in America. With the help of the Native Americans, the Pilgrims were able to cultivate these new crops and survive in the New World. As a tradition to give thanks for the things that we have and to remember the sacrifices made by those early Americans, Thanksgiving dinner is served annually in the United States. Traditionally, the dinner features turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet corn and various fall vegetables (mainly squashes), and pumpkin pie, all foods that are prepared with crops native to America.
