Summary This portrait shows Simon Renard, who served as an advisor to Emperor Charles V and became an ambassador to England, where he was known to exert a great influence over Queen Mary. One of the few things they disagreed on was the burning of Protestant heretics, which Renard feared would provoke a large-scale revolt.
