This portrait depicts Mary Tudor, the only surviving child of Catherine of Aragon and Henry VIII. Mary would later become Queen of England and briefly bring England back to a Catholic nation. Her persecution of Protestant heretics lead to her to be given the nickname of "Bloody Mary." Mary died in 1558 of cancer, and was succeeded by her half-sister, Elizabeth.ℓ |
