Summary This ca. 1660 painting depicts a baker surrounded by anℓintricately crafted assortment of breads and blowing a large horn. This practice of bakers' blowing hornsℓwas common in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. When breads and other baked goods came out of the oven, the horn would alert the community that there were fresh wares at the bakery.
