Summary Letter on paper with ribbon written in 1937 after the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. 14-1/2"h x 11-1/2"w x 1"d (framed) "Resolutions adopted by the Medford Women's Club, October fifth nineteen hundred thirty seven, whereas: by her indomitable courage, sterling character, exceptional ability and outstanding achievement in the field of aviation, a daughter of our beloved city, AMELIA EARHART PUTNAM has won the admiration and love of the entire world; and Whereas: The members of the Medford Women's Club share whole-heartedly in the deep anxiety universally felt for her safety during her recent flight around the world; and Whereas: Mrs. Albert Morrissey, a sister of Amelia Earhart Putnam is a valued and beloved member of the Medford Women's Club, Now Therefore, Be It Resolved: That the Medford Women's Club in regular meeting assembled does hereby express to Mrs. Albert Morrissey and through her to her mother and Mr. Putnam it's deepest sympathy in this dark hour of uncertainty and the assurance that the humble and fervent prayers of every member of the Club ascend to out Heavenly Father, that in His infinite wisdom He may see fit to restore Mrs. Putnam safely to her loved ones and that they may be comforted and stimulated by these inspiring words written in 1934 by Mrs. Putnam herself: COURAGE. "Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release From Little things; Knows not the livid loneliness of fear, Nor mountain heights, where bitter joy hears The sound of wings. How can life grant us boon or living, compensate For dull gray ugliness and pregnant hate, Unless we dare The soul's dominion? Each time we make a choice we pay With courage to behold resistless day and count it fair." Be It Further Resolved: That these Resolutions be spread upon the permanent records of the Medford Women's Club and that a duly attest-end copy be sent to our cherished sister member, Mrs. Albert Morrissey. A true copy, Attest, Hortense Stanhofse York (Mrs. A. Chelsey York), President." From the collection of the Medford Public Library.
