Summary This work contains the famous letter from the nobles and barons of Scotland to Pope John XXII declaring their right to have an independent monarchy and have Robert the Bruce as their rightful ruler. The letter became known as the Declaration of Arbroath and led to Robert the Bruce receiving a letter from the Pope four years later, acknowledging Scotland's sovereignty and himself as King.
