Summary Bernardo de Galvez, the Spanish governor of Louisiana, contributed to the American Revolution as a Spanish soldier. He drove the British out of Pensacola Florida. Galvez safeguarded the lower Mississippi river and a great part of the gulf coast region, which allowed supplies to move up the river to support the American troops.
