Summary The Wawona Tree in Yosemite Valley's Mariposa Grove was a former attraction within Yosemite National Park. In 1881 a fire scar in the Giant Sequoia tree was widened to allow traffic to pass through. The Wawona Tree stood until it was toppled by heavy snows in 1961.
