Summary This volume on Hampton Court Palace was beautifully illustrated by the English landscape painter and book illustrator, E. W. Haslehust. Hampton Court was originally built for Cardinal Thomas Wolsey in the early 16th century. When Wolsey fell out of favor with King Henry VIII, the king acquired the palace and subsequently enlarged it, as did numerous monarchs after him. Hampton Court was used as a royal residence until the 18th century and is now a popular tourist attraction, located just upstream on the River Thames from London.
