Summary This volume contains biographical sketches of Joan of Arc, Boudica and Zenobia, among others. Joan of Arc is arguablyℓthe mostℓiconic of all female warriors, having won several battles, most notably at Orléans in France during the Hundred Years War, before being martyred as a heretic. Boudica (also Boudicca or Boadicea) was queen of the Iceni tribe in Britain. She led an uprisingℓagainst the Romans circa 60 A.D. after they attempted to steal her lands and raped her daughters. Zenobia was a third-century queen of the Palmyrene Empire in what is today Syria. She conquered the kingdom of Egypt andℓled a revolt against the Roman Empire.
