Summary This drawing by Ingres shows Diomedes seated by Venus, who has been injured. InℓThe Iliad,ℓVenus's mother comforts the goddess, telling her that "the man who fights the gods does not live long" and will not be welcomed home from war by his children. Diomedes wounded both Venus and Ares during the Trojan War, and was the only mortal to wound two gods in one day.
