Summary The 1961 edition of the Promenade Yearbook from Maryville College of the Sacred Heart. The books were named to signify both the strolls around the campus and the "promenade" from freshman year to graduation. The name can be accredited to students Mary Helen Schaeffer (1940) and Margaret Boland (1940). Within this edition, the faculty and staff, graduating class, and the lower classes are photographed and labeled, as well as various clubs and sports teams from Maryville College in 1961. The class of 1961 was the last class to graduate from the Maryville College of the Sacred Heart campus at the 2900 Meramec Street address in the city of St. Louis. ¡A new campus opened on Conway Road in west St. Louis County in the fall of 1961. ¡ Page 3 of the Promenade states "I, the Old Maryville, will cease to be in the concrete framework of halls and doorways, dormitories and classrooms. ¡My physical end is near, but my spiritual influence is at its moment of rebirth. ¡Confidently, I can trust my own offspring, the New Maryville, with the power of my tradition to be instilled into her children and my grandchildren for generations to come. ¡Those who pass with me from the old to the new college must carry with them the ideals I have inspired through the years. ¡By outstanding example and fervent efforts, they must lay an adamant foundation of Christian excellence in scholastic and social activities. ¡I have labored long and am a bit weary from clearing the path of the past. ¡I have tried to accomplish the task set before me and I give the work of its completion into newer, younger, stronger hands to construct the spirit for the future, to contribute to the progress of man." The Maryville College of the Sacred Heart graduating class of 1961: Karen Ann Kearney, Student Body President Frances de la Chapelle, Prefect of the Children of Mary Mary Ann Seifert, Chairman of the House Council Norma Jean Vescovo, Chairman of the Honor Board Judith Lenore Trogolo, Senior Class President Mary Susan Britton, Senior Class Vice-President Mary Lynette Barclay, Secretary of Senior Class Susan Bates Dodd, Treasurer of Senior Class Kathleen Jean Barry Carolyn Josephine Baker Mary Elizabeth Bolger Mary Grace Barry Georgia Patricia Buckowitz Kathleen Ann Burkemper Martha Jane Carr Katherine Ann Cunningham Mary Delores Downey Mary Diane Dennis Kathleen Marie Entrup Donna Jean Dunkel Margaret Mary Esker Dorothy Marie Ford Jerry Dolores Fox Rosemary Anheuser Fritz Cheri Galanos Mary Ann Gagen Heather Ann Heuchan Mary Julia Henery Kathleen Hogan Camilla Brennan Howes Suzanna Margaret Huesing Nancy Jane Jones Jeanne Ann Kaveney Marianne Agnes Kane Elizabeth Jeanette Kuhlman Elizabeth Frances Koenig Katherine Marie Kurtz Elaine Mary Louis Mercedes McGlynn Margaret Mary McGinness Yvonne Marie Nadeau Jay Marie Mepham Mary Sheila O'Keefe Frances Ellen Neal Virginia Rafferty Lucia Ann Rager Kathleen Marian Scally Margaret Cecilia Schaffler Leslie Kathryn Shea Irene Theresa Scherrer Dorothy Jane Snyders Judith Ann Smith Rosalie Sophie Stolarski Mary Elizabeth Stuart Rose Mary Suliburk Barbara Ann Treat Julie Mary Weber Mary Sheridan Waters Mary Eloise Yerger Gretchen Mary Wenstrup Deanna Catherine Zahrli Dear Seniors: "Lest we forget ... It is fitting that the last class At the old Maryville is the largest. You have given so much, and You have had so much to give. Maryville may change in location, But not in its tradition and spirit. So you may go your separate ways, Yet you leave an example and heritage That future classes will gratefully carry on. We will always remember Maryville's class of '61."
