Summary Nohant is theℓancestralℓhome of George Sand in the rural village of Nohant, France. When Sand was four, her father died, and she went to live with her grandmother at the estate, which Sand later inherited upon her grandmother's death in 1821. It was in Nohant that Sand wrote many of her novels and in the rural countryside surrounding the estate that many of her stories were set. Sand's friends, many of whom were fellow writers or artists, visited Sand at Nohant, including the painter Eugène Delacroix, composerℓFranz Liszt, writersℓHonoré de BalzacℓandℓGustave Flaubertℓand her longtime lover, composerℓFrédéricℓChopin.
