Summary |
Stonewall uprising: Featuring archival footage and interviews with those who took part, from drag queens and street hustlers to police detectives, journalists, and a former mayor of New York City, this program revisits a time when homosexual acts were illegal throughout the United States, and homosexuality itself was considered a mental illness. On June 28, 1969, when police raided the Stonewall Inn, a Mafia-run gay bar in Greenwich Village, gay men and women did something they had not done before: they fought back. As the streets of New York erupted into violent protests and street demonstrations, the collective anger announced that the gay rights movement had arrived. |
Lady valor: Former U.S. Navy SEAL Christopher Beck embarks on a new mission as Kristin Beck. Kristin's journey in search of the American ideals that she protected has a whole new meaning as she lives her life truthfully as a transgender woman. After a lifetime of service, Kristin has learned that her fight for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness did not end on the battlefield. |
Kiki: Filmmaker Sara Jordeno introduces viewers to some of Kiki culture's most prominent personalities, going beyond the glamour of the balls to highlight the serious challenges facing queer black and Latino young people. Bringing together heartrending personal stories with incredible displays of creative expression. |
The pearl: Profiles four transgender women who come out late in life. Focuses on the theme of what it means to leave behind one's male identity. |
