Summary Judy O'Brien is an aspiring ballerina whose poor finances have reduced her and her mentor, Madame Lydia Basilova, to corralling chorus girls for local nightclubs. They have a rising star in "Bubbles," a dame with ambition to spare. Bubbles and Judy accidentally end up competing for the same man--but romance comes second to their careers. Bubbles is looking to marry into money rather than for love, while Judy is a serious dancer struggling to overcome the crass surroundings and establish herself as an artist. When Bubbles leaves the act and becomes a burlesque queen, she cruelly hires the desperate Judy for the unfortunate role of 'stooge' - a dancer whose sole function is to make the main act look stronger by comparison. After a spectacular catfight, the dancer's reconcile their differences, and all ends well.
