Summary The Gamble House in Pasadena, California is a striking example of the Arts and Crafts influence on an American Craftsman-style home. The architecture of this period focused on the use of natural materials, quality craftsmanship, aesthetic concerns and attention to the smallest detail. The Gamble House was designed by brothers Charles and Henry Greene of the firm Greene and Greene and displays both the airiness and Japanese influences that are typical of their style. Other notable homes by Greene and Greene—called “ultimate bungalows”χρ“«»ʹωare the Robert R. Blackner House and the Spinks House in Pasadena and the Thorsen House in Berkeley, California. Architects such as Julia Morgan in California and Frank Lloyd Wright and George Washington Maher of the Prairie School were also largely influenced by the Arts and Crafts Movement.
