Summary |
Get That Picture!ℓis a fascinating book about the history of photojournalism. The book explains the multifaceted role of a photographer as an artist, documentarian and impartial observer. Chapters of the book cover such topics as the birth of the camera, the role of the editor and the job of the photographer. In addition, the book includes a selection that describes Mathew Brady’s part in creating today’s notion of the cameraman. Brady’s system of photographing the American Civil War included a 27 person staff, all of whom worked in various areas affected by the Civil War. Brady and his men often exposed themselves to danger in order to get their photographs, and incidents of staffers and their camera equipment being hit by metal and bullet fragments were common. Their efforts were not in vain, however. Together, Brady and his assistants took photographs that have immortalized some of the most important moments in the Civil War and in American history.ℓ |
