In Between Jews and Heretics, Matthijs den Dulk argues that whereas scholarship has routinely cast this important text in terms of "Christianity vs. Judaism," its rhetorical aims and discursive strategies are considerably more complex, because Justin is advocating his particular form of Christianity in constant negotiation with rival forms of Christianity. The striking new interpretation?proposed in this study explains many of the Dialogue's puzzling features and sheds new light on key passages. Because the Dialogue is a critical document for the early history of Jews and Christians, this book contributes to a range of important questions, including the emergence of the notion of heresy and the "parting of the ways" between Jews and Christians. 588 0 Print version record. 590 Taylor & Francis|bTaylor & Francis eBooks: Open Access 648 7 30-600|2fast 650 0 Christianity and other religions|xJudaism|vEarly works to 1800. 650 0 Civilization, Ancient. 650 0 Church history|yPrimitive and early church, ca. 30-600. 650 0 Church history. 650 7 RELIGION|xChristian Theology|xApologetics.|2bisacsh 650 7 Christianity.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00859599 650 7 Church history.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00860740 650 7 Church history|xPrimitive and early church.|2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01710945 650 7 Civilization.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00862898 650 7 Civilization, Ancient.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00862946 650 7 Interfaith relations.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01353343 650 7 Judaism.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00984280 651 0 Rome|xHistory. 651 0 Rome|xCivilization. 651 7 Rome (Empire)|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01204885 655 0 Electronic books. 655 7 Early works.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01411636 655 7 History.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01411628 776 08 |iPrint version:|aDen Dulk, Matthijs.|tBetween Jews and Heretics : Refiguring Justin Martyr's Dialogue with Trypho.|dMilton : Routledge, ©2018|z9780815373452 830 0 Routledge studies in the early Christian world. 914 on1037812159 994 92|bSTJ
