Summary |
Renato and Albin, a middle-aged couple and the managers and star performers at a glitzy drag club in St. Tropez, agree to hide their sexual identities, along with their flamboyant personalities and home decor, when the parents of Renato's son's fiancée come for a visit. But with its hilarious performances and ahead-of-its-time social message, there's nothing like the audacious, dazzling original movie. |
Note |
Special features: Edouard Molinaro (new interview with the director); Archival footage (featuring actor Michel Serrault and Jean Poiret, writer and star of the original stage production); Laurence Senelick (interview of Senelick in which he situates La Cage aux Folles within the centuries-old tradition of drag performance, and talks about the impact the film had on the contemporary understanding of sexuality and gender politics); Trailers. Booklet features essay by critic David Ehrenstein. |
