A world of signs. Signs they are ashamed to show. They are quite young when they leave deaf school to marry, and they must fight for their lives in the hearing world. The depression is hard, but being unable to hear often means tragedy for their family. Their daughter Margaret can hear, and becomes the link for Janice and Abel to the world of hearers, a world they don't understand and don't trust. Margaret struggles with her own need for independence and the obligation she feels toward her parents. The treatment of deaf people in 1930's society, and the toll that the resultant misunderstandings take on a family, is well depicted in this film. 538 DVD; NTSC, Region 1; Dolby surround; full screen presentation. 546 In English; closed-captioned in English. 600 10 Greenberg, Joanne|vTelevision adaptations. 600 17 Greenberg, Joanne.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00033687 650 0 Deaf|vDrama. 650 0 Families|vDrama. 650 0 Children of deaf parents|vDrama. 650 0 Older deaf people|vDrama. 650 7 Children of deaf parents.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00855331 650 7 Deaf.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst00888436 650 7 Families.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01728849 650 7 Older deaf people.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01199141 651 0 New York (N.Y.)|vDrama. 651 7 New York (State)|zNew York.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01204333 655 7 Video recordings for the hearing impaired.|2fast |0(OCoLC)fst01710450 655 7 Television adaptations.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01710478 655 7 Melodramas (Motion pictures)|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01726217 655 7 Made-for-TV movies.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01710404 655 7 Film adaptations.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01710491 655 7 Fiction television programs.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01710265 655 7 Feature films.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01710384 655 7 Feature films.|2lcgft 655 7 Film adaptations.|2lcgft 655 7 Made-for-TV movies.|2lcgft 655 7 Melodramas (Motion pictures)|2lcgft 655 7 Video recordings for the hearing impaired.|2lcgft 655 7 Feature films.|2gsafd 655 7 Fiction television programs.|2lcgft 655 7 Television adaptations.|2lcgft 655 7 Drama.|2fast|0(OCoLC)fst01423879 700 1 Rees, Marian.|4pro 700 1 Petrie, Dorothea G.|4pro 700 1 Craviotto, Darlene.|4aus 700 1 Sargent, Joseph,|d1925-2014.|4drt 700 1 Winningham, Mare.|4act 700 1 Frelich, Phyllis.|4act 700 1 Waterstreet, Ed.|4act 700 1 Lehne, Fredric.|4act 700 1 Leachman, Cloris.|4act 700 1 Caesar, Sid,|d1922-2014.|4act 700 1 Gribble, David,|d1946-|4cng 700 1 LaMastra, Paul.|4flm 700 1 Goldenberg, Billy.|4cmp 700 1 |iMotion picture adaptation of (work):|aGreenberg, Joanne. |tIn this sign. 710 2 Marian Rees Associates (Firm),|eproduction company. 710 2 Telepictures Productions,|eproduction company. 710 2 Hallmark Hall of Fame Productions, Inc.,|eproduction company,|edistributor. 730 0 |iContained in (work):|aHallmark hall of fame. 830 0 Hallmark Hall of Fame (DVD videodiscs) ;|v64. 994 92|bCKE
