Summary |
This story is about a very hearty poet named Vijay, played by Guru Dutt, who is talented at writing awe-inspiring poems with deep meanings. Out of tough luck, he is not able to pursue the publishers to publish his work. Because his family has a very low income, his passion for poetry becomes a luxury and an obvious reason for his brothers to oppose his work. His brothers want him to find employment so that he can support the family financially but Vijay's heart doesn't want to recognise this mundane issue. This is the reason why he resorts to alcohol as an escape from the mean world and ends up in a brothel. Here, he finds a professional prostitute named Gulabo, played by Waheeda Rehman. Gulabo is very different from other prostitutes and has a heart of gold. She listens to Vijay's poetry and falls in love with him. In the midst of this romantic setup, things go awfully wrong as Vijay is declared dead in a train accident. The real Vijay is thrown into a mental asylum for being persistent on his identity. His close friend and Gulabo are the only people who understand him and are the last hope for Vijay to help him officially claim his living status. Amazon.in. |
