Summary
Beginning with a chronology of their relationship and events that occurred over the course of their correspondence, this 1897 volume features all known letters written between American poet Walt Whitman and his close friend Peter Doyle. Many scholars believe their friendship developed into a controversial romantic relationship, as evidenced by some of the letters inâ„“Calamus. The volume also contains an interview from Peter Doyle where he speaks openly about his relationship with Whitman.
